Bournemouth match club record with eighth straight win at Ipswich
Bournemouth equalled their club record of eight consecutive victories with a 2-1 win at Ipswich, surviving a late response from the hosts after scoring early in each half. According to The Guardian's match report, the result matched the winning sequence achieved under Eddie Howe in 2012-13, when Bournemouth earned promotion from League One.
Watch the highlights:
Evanilson put the visitors ahead after five minutes following an error by Christian Walton. The Ipswich goalkeeper attempted to dribble past the striker inside the penalty area but lost out, allowing Bournemouth to take the lead. Evanilson has now scored in five successive Premier League appearances, taking his season's total to seven goals and surpassing his tally for the whole of last season.
Bournemouth needed only 27 seconds of the second half to double their advantage. Ryan Christie's shot was diverted into the net by Leif Davis, leaving Ipswich two goals behind. The visitors' quick starts were a welcome change for manager Marco Rose, who recalled that his team had conceded twice in the opening three minutes at Chelsea four weeks earlier.
Ipswich were given a route back when Lewis Cook fouled Abdoul Ouattara in the area. Jack Clarke converted the resulting penalty with 17 minutes remaining, cutting the deficit to one and changing the balance of the closing stages. Julio Enciso threatened late on with two free-kicks, but Bournemouth protected their lead to secure another victory at Portman Road.
Rose praised his players' collective response to that pressure, The Guardian reported. While satisfied with their work in building a two-goal lead, he was particularly pleased with how they stayed together once Ipswich gained momentum. The result came three days after Bournemouth won away at Sparta Prague, adding another victory during a week of European and domestic commitments.
For Ipswich, the defeat left them with one win in their past seven matches across all competitions. Manager Gary O'Neil said his side had competed without being outclassed but had paid for giving possession to the opposing striker. He pointed to the preceding 2-2 draw with Hull alongside this performance as games from which Ipswich needed to obtain a better points return.
