Bournemouth beat Manchester United 3-0 as Rayan, Tavernier and Evanilson score
Bournemouth won 3-0 at Manchester United on Sunday, with goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson securing their fourth successive victory. According to the Guardian's match report, United again failed to win after Michael Carrick left Bruno Fernandes out of the starting side and handed the captaincy to Harry Maguire.
Watch the highlights:
Fernandes remained on the bench throughout the match. Carrick had attributed his omission to footballing reasons, but the change did not bring a result for a team whose previous victory came on 10 September. The Guardian reported that United had registered only a wayward Diogo Dalot effort as the opening half passed the half-hour mark.
Bournemouth's opening goal followed a foul by Ayden Heaven on Evanilson, for which the United defender received a yellow card. Justin Kluivert delivered the resulting free-kick from the visitors' right, and Rayan was left unmarked to finish. Earlier, Leny Yoro had cleared near his own goal as a Rayan cross threatened to find Evanilson.
Tavernier doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute after another opening in United's defence. Yoro slipped close to his penalty area, allowing Adrien Truffert to take possession and provide the pass for Tavernier's finish. That gave Bournemouth a two-goal lead before the interval and left Carrick needing a response from his side in the second half.
United introduced Matheus Cunha in place of Youri Tielemans at half-time, while Fernandes continued to watch from the bench. Bournemouth nevertheless created another chance for Rayan, who failed to convert. Evanilson then completed the scoring after goalkeeper Senne Lammens came out to meet a through ball. The forward reached it first, went around Lammens and scored from a difficult angle on the right.
The final whistle brought contrasting reactions from the home crowd. Carrick was cheered by the Stretford End as he applauded supporters, while Fernandes and the other players were booed after the manager had gone down the tunnel, the Guardian reported. Bournemouth, meanwhile, left with three goals, a clean sheet and another victory to extend their winning run.
