Evanilson and Adli seal Bournemouth’s sixth straight win against Leeds
Bournemouth defeated Leeds United 2–0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, with Evanilson and Amine Adli scoring as the hosts recorded their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions. RTÉ reported that the result also gave Bournemouth a third straight Premier League win and moved them one point above Leeds in the table. The visitors were still only a goal behind entering stoppage time, before Adli settled the contest.
Watch the highlights:
The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute after James Trafford lost possession while Leeds attempted to build from a short goal-kick. Justin Kluivert took advantage and supplied Evanilson, who scored his fifth goal in six matches, according to RTÉ’s report. Bournemouth turned the goalkeeper’s mistake into the lead after Leeds had made a competitive start, leaving the visitors chasing an equaliser for the remainder of the match.
Leeds had earlier thought they had scored through Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Guardian’s John Brewin reported that the striker converted a James Justin cross, but the ball had struck his biceps as he finished. A video assistant referee review ruled out the effort. Bournemouth manager Marco Rose acknowledged his side’s good fortune over that incident and credited Leeds with matching their intensity early on.
Trafford later saved a Marcus Tavernier free-kick, but Leeds struggled to give Calvert-Lewin consistent service after the interval. The Guardian reported that the forward dropped deeper to find the ball as Bournemouth took greater control. Rose withdrew Evanilson after 75 minutes with Thursday’s Europa League trip to Prague in mind, while Eli Junior Kroupi provided another attacking option from the bench.
Kroupi supplied Adli for the stoppage-time finish that removed any prospect of a late Leeds recovery. The substitute’s goal completed a two-goal victory and ensured Bournemouth’s winning sequence continued with another clean sheet. RTÉ identified the result as their third successive league success within that broader six-match run, underlining that their recent victories have come across more than one competition.
Despite the defeat, Leeds manager Daniel Farke defended Trafford and said he was not concerned about his players’ performance or commitment, The Guardian reported. He backed the goalkeeper to save Leeds more points than his error had cost them.
