Bohannon's unbeaten 125 steadies Lancashire against Durham

Josh Bohannon ended his long wait for a century with an unbeaten 125 as Lancashire reached 267-5 on the third day of their County Championship Division Two match against Durham at Old Trafford. The hosts still trailed Durham's first-innings 493 by 226 runs, but Bohannon's partnership with Matthew Hurst brought a recovery after another difficult start with the bat.

According to the ECB Reporters' Network report published by BBC Sport, this was Bohannon's first century of the season and his first since June 2025. His innings helped Lancashire earn their first batting bonus point since May. Bohannon and Hurst added 161 after the home side had slipped to 87-4, giving Lancashire a sustained response to Durham's substantial total.

Lancashire resumed on 10 without loss but added only 66 runs in a morning session spanning 32 overs, while losing three wickets. Keaton Jennings made 17 before sweeping Callum Parkinson to Shaf Ghafari at deep square leg. Michael Jones was run out for 11, and Marcus Harris also fell for 11 when he hit Parkinson to Ghafari at deep midwicket. Brydon Carse then trapped Rocky Flintoff lbw for 11 early in the afternoon.

Bohannon and Hurst steadied the innings, taking their partnership to an unbeaten 78 by tea. Bohannon's half-century was his first since 10 April and came from 132 balls, with three boundaries. After tea, the pair completed only Lancashire's second century partnership in Championship cricket since April, extending an innings that had looked vulnerable when they came together.

Bohannon reached three figures with a leg glance off Kasey Aldridge, having faced 217 deliveries and batted for 254 minutes. The shot brought his seventh boundary. Hurst's contribution ended on 57 when Parkinson bowled him with a delivery that turned from outside leg stump to strike the top of off. Parkinson finished the day with figures of 3-63 from 37 overs.

Walkden then joined Bohannon and Lancashire reached the close without another wicket falling. Elsewhere, Gloucestershire's defeat by Kent ensured Lancashire would avoid finishing bottom, although the report said they would finish 17th overall for the first time in their history. The day's batting recovery left Lancashire with five wickets remaining in their first innings and a sizeable deficit still to address.
