Bohannon ends century drought as Lancashire recover against Durham

Josh Bohannon scored his first century of the season as Lancashire recovered to 267-5 on the third day of their County Championship Division Two match against Durham at Old Trafford. Unbeaten on 125 at the close, he helped the hosts reduce their first-innings deficit to 226 runs after Durham had made 493.

The ECB Reporters’ Network report carried by BBC Sport said the hundred was Bohannon’s first since June 2025. His partnership of 161 with Matthew Hurst rescued Lancashire from 87-4 and enabled them to claim their first batting bonus point since May. Durham spinner Callum Parkinson remained the principal wicket-taking threat, ending the day with figures of 3-63 from 37 overs.

Lancashire had resumed on 10 without loss but lost three wickets while adding only 66 runs in the morning’s 32 overs. Keaton Jennings, who made 17, was caught by Shaf Ghafari at deep square leg off Parkinson. Michael Jones was run out for 11 following work by Ben McKinney and Parkinson, while Marcus Harris also fell for 11, caught by Ghafari at deep midwicket off the spinner.

The difficulties continued shortly after lunch when Brydon Carse trapped Rocky Flintoff lbw for 11. From there, Bohannon and Hurst steadied the innings, adding an unbeaten 78 together by tea. Bohannon reached his first half-century since 10 April from 132 balls, having spent 153 minutes at the crease and struck three boundaries. Their stand subsequently became Lancashire’s second century partnership in Championship cricket since April.

Bohannon completed his hundred after tea with a leg glance off Kasey Aldridge, reaching the milestone from 217 deliveries after 254 minutes of batting. That stroke was his seventh boundary. Hurst contributed 57 before Parkinson bowled him with a delivery that turned from outside leg stump to hit the top of off, ending the partnership that had changed Lancashire’s innings.

Walkden then joined Bohannon and helped Lancashire reach stumps without another wicket falling, although Durham still held a substantial advantage. Elsewhere, Gloucestershire’s defeat by Kent ensured Lancashire would avoid finishing bottom of the table. The report nevertheless confirmed that Lancashire would finish 17th for the first time in their history, giving the batting recovery a place within a difficult wider campaign.
