Bohannon finishes unbeaten on 190 as Durham complete undefeated season

Durham completed an unbeaten County Championship season with a draw against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday, September 27. Josh Bohannon finished on 190 not out as the hosts reached 397-6 in reply to 493. Durham's official match report confirmed that the Division Two champions took 13 points, with Lancashire collecting 11.

Lancashire began the final morning on 267-5, but rain and poor light restricted the day's play to 38 overs. Bohannon continued an innings that accounted for more than a third of his season's runs. The weather delayed the start by 45 minutes and then forced an early lunch after only 6.1 overs.

Ben Walkden made a career-best 36 before falling to Callum Parkinson, with Brydon Carse taking the catch at backward point. Durham reported that Walkden and Bohannon had added 83 for the sixth wicket. George Balderson then joined Bohannon in an unbroken stand of 66, taking Lancashire beyond the follow-on target before play ended.

Lancashire's live coverage recorded a personal milestone for Balderson, who reached 2,500 first-class runs during his innings. He also survived a chance when Duanne Olivier could not hold a catch near the square-leg boundary in gusting wind. At the final interruption for bad light, Balderson was on 29 alongside Bohannon, with Lancashire still 96 runs behind.

The Guardian's final-day roundup placed Bohannon's innings in the context of a difficult Lancashire campaign: it was the county's highest individual score of the season, while the team passed 300 for the first time since April. The draw left Lancashire seventh in the eight-team second division, on 114 points, ahead of Gloucestershire on 97.

Durham's return to Division One was already secured, and the final standings showed the scale of their advantage. The Guardian listed the champions on 258 points, 47 ahead of Kent, who claimed the other promotion place with 211. Lancashire ended 36 points behind sixth-placed Derbyshire, leaving the two teams departing Old Trafford with sharply contrasting positions despite sharing a drawn finale.
