Blackstenius Praises Arsenal Character as Champions League Semifinal Rematch With Lyon Approaches
Arsenal's Swedish striker Stina Blackstenius has expressed full confidence in her team's ability to overcome Lyon in the Women's Champions League semifinals, praising the squad's character and togetherness ahead of the blockbuster two-legged tie. The Gunners secured a convincing 3-1 aggregate victory over Juventus in the quarterfinals, with Blackstenius scoring the decisive second goal in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium. Lyon, meanwhile, dispatched Paris Saint-Germain 4-2 on aggregate in their quarterfinal, setting up a rematch of the dramatic 2022 semifinal that Lyon won 5-3 on aggregate. 'This club has always been a team you can count on,' Blackstenius said in an exclusive interview. 'When压力大 moments come, we stick together. Lyon is an incredible side but we've grown so much since that semifinal two years ago.' Arsenal have lost only once in their last 15 matches across all competitions, with manager Jonas Eidevall implementing a high-pressing style that has yielded 47 goals in that span. The north London club sit second in the Women's Super League, two points behind Chelsea with a game in hand, and Blackstenius believes European success could be the catalyst for domestic glory. 'Winning the Champions League would change everything for this club,' she added. 'The semifinal against Lyon is the perfect test. We know what it takes to beat them - we showed that in the group stage this season.' The first leg is scheduled for April 30 at the Emirates Stadium, with the return fixture in Lyon on May 7. Arsenal defeated Lyon 2-1 in the group stage back in November, with Blackstenius scoring a late winner that sparked jubilant scenes among the 22,000-strong crowd.
