Bills overcome five turnovers to beat Chargers 24-16

Buffalo survived five turnovers to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, extending its unbeaten start to three games. Josh Allen ran for two touchdowns as the Bills recovered from a 10-0 deficit, while Los Angeles remained without a victory after three weeks of the season.

The Chargers' official match report described an opening that gave the visitors immediate control. Justin Eboigbe forced a fumble on Buffalo's first offensive play and Daiyan Henley recovered it. Keaton Mitchell then scored from a yard out to finish the ensuing possession, giving Los Angeles an early advantage before Buffalo had established any offensive rhythm.

Rookie safety Genesis Smith added two interceptions of Allen. The first set up a Cameron Dicker field goal, but the Chargers failed to turn the second into more points when Dicker missed another attempt. Buffalo subsequently drew level at 10-10 before halftime, leaving Los Angeles with no lead despite its early takeaways.

According to the Chargers' recap, their second-half scoring was limited to two field goals. They had repeatedly taken possession away from Buffalo but could not build enough separation to protect themselves against a late comeback. The Bills did not move ahead until the fourth quarter, when their defense and running game supplied the decisive plays.

Buffalo's official report identified C.J. Gardner-Johnson's interception as a crucial response to another turnover. After Allen lost a fumble with the Bills trailing 13-10, the safety intercepted near his own goal line and returned the ball 41 yards. Allen later scored from one yard to put Buffalo ahead 17-13 with 7:35 remaining.

James Cook added a three-yard touchdown run as Buffalo extended its lead to 24-13. He finished with 154 rushing yards on 24 carries, while Allen contributed 204 passing yards. Greg Rousseau recorded two sacks, taking his total to six through three games, which the Bills reported as a club record for that opening stretch.

The Bills also reported that Allen became the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to run for multiple touchdowns in three consecutive games. His scoring provided the finish to a recovery that kept Buffalo unbeaten despite an afternoon of repeated offensive mistakes.
