Ben Donaldson handed Wallabies No 10 start against Argentina

Ben Donaldson will start at fly-half for Australia in the second Test against Argentina in Mendoza, earning his first Wallabies start in two years. The selection gives the 27-year-old another opportunity at No 10 as coach Les Kiss continues to assess his playmaking options before next year's Rugby World Cup.

The Guardian reported that Carter Gordon has moved to the bench despite being fit to play. Gordon sustained a facial injury during Australia's 27-21 victory over Argentina in Jujuy last week, but has recovered sufficiently to be named among the replacements. Kiss indicated that Donaldson's selection was part of a planned effort to give Australia's fly-halves Test exposure during the season.

Donaldson will combine with scrum-half Ryan Lonergan, who is set to make his seventh consecutive start. Donaldson's most recent Wallabies start came in Australia's 67-27 defeat by Argentina in 2024. Since then, Noah Lolesio, Tom Lynagh, James O'Connor, Tane Edmed, Declan Meredith and Gordon have all started Tests in the No 10 jersey.

Kiss said Australia would begin narrowing its fly-half options as the season progresses, with greater consistency the longer-term objective. He also identified game management and kicking as areas requiring improvement after the first Test, when Australia secured the win but did not pull clear of Argentina late in the match.

Several other changes have been made to the starting side. Len Ikitau and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii return as the midfield pairing, while Filipo Daugunu replaces Harry Potter on the wing. Captain Harry Wilson returns at No 8, Rob Valetini shifts to blindside flanker and Tom Hooper is rested. Taniela Tupou, Billy Pollard and Angus Bell form the starting front row.

Tom Wright starts at full-back, with Max Jorgensen on the other wing. Fraser McReight remains at openside flanker, while Jeremy Williams and Josh Canham are the locks. The bench includes Kalani Thomas, Carter Gordon and Isaac Henry among the backline cover as Australia seeks a second consecutive victory over Argentina.
