Bemidji Lumberjacks Maintain Perfect Record with Dominant Triangular Victories
Bemidji High School boys tennis team improved to 4-0 with convincing victories over Mora and Fergus Falls in a relocated triangular meet.

The Bemidji High School boys tennis team continued their impressive start to the season, sweeping both matches in a triangular meet to improve their record to a perfect 4-0.

Facing challenging weather conditions that have limited court availability across Minnesota, the Lumberjacks were forced to relocate their home triangular to Fergus Falls, where they found playable courts to compete against the host Otters and visiting Mora.

In their opening match against Mora, Bemidji secured a solid 5-2 victory behind strong individual performances and dominant doubles play. Senior Owen Lappinga showcased his leadership at the top of the lineup, defeating Axtell in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at number one singles.

Blake Friese provided additional firepower in the singles lineup, earning a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory at number three singles over Sand. The Lumberjacks faced challenges in the middle of their singles rotation, with Arel falling 6-0, 6-0 at number two and Broten losing a heartbreaking three-set match 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 at number four.

However, Bemidji's depth and doubles prowess proved decisive in securing the team victory. The combination of Chase Fairchild and Peter Mathews dominated at number one doubles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Anderson and Hamilton.

The second doubles team of Ethan Frank and Logan Berg continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Ostrom and Connolly, while Paul Gifford and Hudson Moussa completed the doubles sweep with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory at number three.

Remarked one observer, the doubles teams surrendered just six total games across all three matches, demonstrating the exceptional depth and teamwork that has characterized this Bemidji squad.

The second match of the day proved even more dominant for the Lumberjacks, who demolished Fergus Falls 7-0 while losing just nine games across all seven matches. Lappinga continued his excellent form with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Heruth at number one singles.

Arel bounced back from his earlier struggles to secure a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number two singles, while Friese and Gifford both posted double-bagel victories in their respective matches. The comprehensive nature of the victory highlighted the team's impressive balance and competitive depth.

The doubles competition proved equally one-sided, with all three Bemidji pairs posting dominant victories. Fairchild and Mathews continued their exceptional partnership with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Frank and Berg secured a 6-4, 6-3 win in the most competitive doubles match of the day.

Coach expectations remain high as the team prepares for upcoming challenges. Thursday's scheduled triangular against Moorhead and Sauk Rapids-Rice has been moved to Sauk Rapids due to continued court availability issues throughout the region.

The Lumberjacks will also face Detroit Lakes on Friday at 3 p.m. in what promises to be another test of their early-season form. With their perfect record intact and momentum building, Bemidji appears well-positioned to continue their successful campaign.

The weather-related court challenges that forced the venue change highlight the persistent difficulties facing Minnesota high school tennis programs this spring, but they have not deterred this determined Lumberjacks squad from maintaining their winning ways.
