Korda Maintains Five-Stroke Lead at Chevron Championship Ahead of Final Round
Nelly Korda has preserved her five-stroke lead at the Chevron Championship, positioning herself on the verge of a breakthrough major victory as the LPGA Tour's first major of the season approaches its conclusion at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
Watch the highlights:
Korda carded a 2-under-par 70 in Saturday's third round, weathering a challenging day that included three birdies against one bogey. The American star demonstrated the composure required of a potential champion, making crucial par saves on the closing holes to maintain her commanding advantage over the chasing pack.
The world number three spoke candidly about the pressure of holding the outright lead heading into the final round: "I felt the nerves today, especially on those mid-range putts. But I'm happy with how I managed the situation. There's still one more round to go and I'll treat it like any other round." Korda's closest challenger entering the day failed to gain significant ground, preserving the status quo at the top of the leaderboard.
LLyin, who trails by five strokes at 9-under-par overall, acknowledged the difficulty of catching Korda but remains focused on executing her own game plan. "Nelly is playing incredibly solid golf right now. My job is to go out there and post the best score I can and see where that leaves us."
The Chevron Championship, formerly known as the ANA Inspiration, maintains its tradition of awarding the traditional champion's cardigan to the winner. Korda would join an elite list of American major winners that includes Patty Berg, Annika Sorenstam, and Inbee Park.
Final round action begins at 8:00 AM local time, with Korda teeing off in the final group alongside LLyin at 10:00 AM. Weather conditions are expected to remain favorable with temperatures in the low 80s and minimal wind.
