Xander Schauffele Shoots Final-Round 63 to Win Arnold Palmer Invitational by Two Strokes
Xander Schauffele delivered one of the most spectacular final rounds in Arnold Palmer Invitational history Wednesday afternoon, firing a tournament-record 63 to come from four shots behind and win by two strokes at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The 32-year-old American's closing round featured nine birdies and an eagle, capping off a remarkable week that saw him climb from a tie for 15th after the first round to capture his second PGA Tour victory of the 2026 season.
The turning point came early in Schauffele's final round when he holed out from 87 yards for eagle on the par-4 6th hole, a shot that energized both the player and the gallery following his group. The spectacular approach shot, which landed softly and rolled directly into the cup, put Schauffele within striking distance of the leaders and provided the momentum he would ride throughout the back nine.
Schauffele's putter was absolutely on fire during the closing stretch, as he made birdie putts from 15, 22, and 18 feet on holes 14, 15, and 16 respectively. His final birdie of the day came on the iconic 18th hole, where a perfectly struck 6-iron to 8 feet set up the putt that sealed his victory in front of a packed grandstand that erupted when the ball found the bottom of the cup.
"This feels incredible, especially to do it at a tournament with so much history and meaning," Schauffele said while holding the crystal trophy. "Arnold Palmer was a legend of this game, and to win his tournament with a round like that is something I'll never forget. I felt like everything clicked today - my irons, my putting, my course management. When you have days like this, you just try to stay in the moment and not get ahead of yourself."
The victory moves Schauffele to the top of the FedEx Cup standings and establishes him as an early favorite heading into the Masters Tournament next month. His recent form has been exceptional, with three top-10 finishes in his last four starts, suggesting that the former Olympic champion is peaking at the perfect time as golf's first major championship of the year approaches.
Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, who entered the final round tied for the lead, both struggled with the pressure and shot rounds of 72 and 74 respectively to finish tied for third at 15-under par. The result continues Schauffele's excellent record at Bay Hill, where he has now finished in the top 10 in four of his last five appearances, demonstrating his affinity for the challenging Florida layout that demands precision and mental toughness.
