BBC selects Cray Wanderers and Altrincham home ties for FA Cup coverage
The BBC has selected home ties involving non-league clubs Cray Wanderers and Altrincham for its live coverage of the FA Cup first round in November. According to BBC Sport's announcement, Altrincham's match against Notts County will be shown on Saturday, 7 November, with Cray's meeting with Stockport County following on Sunday, 8 November. Both games will be available on BBC Two and iPlayer.
Watch the highlights:
Cray's selection comes as the Bromley-based club reaches the first round for the first time. The seventh-tier Isthmian League side secured its place by beating Bedford Town 4-3 on penalties after Tuesday's qualifying replay finished 2-2. Cray will host League One leaders Stockport at 14:15 GMT, with Alex Scott presenting the BBC's coverage. BBC Sport describes Cray as London's oldest football club.
Altrincham will host Notts County at Moss Lane at 17:15 GMT on the Saturday, with Jason Mohammad presenting. The National League side has recorded 17 FA Cup victories against Football League opponents, a record among clubs that have never played in the league. Altrincham reached this round with a 6-2 qualifying replay win at United of Manchester on Tuesday.
Notts County bring a different strand of cup history to the televised tie. Founder members of the Football League in 1888, they won the FA Cup in 1894. Their previous campaign ended at the first-round stage, however, when Brackley eliminated them on penalties. The newly announced broadcast schedule places their visit to Altrincham alongside Cray's landmark appearance as the BBC's two live selections.
Six other first-round matches will be broadcast on TNT/HBO Max. Oxford City against Leicester City opens that schedule on Friday, 6 November, followed by Peterborough United against Reading on Saturday. Sunday's selections are Stafford Rangers against Grimsby Town, Wimborne Town against Crawley Town and Oldham Athletic against Sheffield Wednesday. Plymouth Parkway against Berkhamsted completes the televised programme on Monday, 9 November.
The second-round draw will take place before the Plymouth Parkway tie. The BBC has also scheduled a highlights programme for 17:10 GMT on Sunday, 8 November, on BBC Two and iPlayer. Goals from every first-round match will be available through its digital platforms, including the BBC Sport website and app.
