Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Champions League Quarter-Final Showdown Arrives at the Allianz
Bayern Munich hold a slender 2-1 advantage heading into Wednesday night's second leg at the Allianz Arena, but Real Madrid have a reputation for producing dramatic European comebacks.

The Allianz Arena plays host to one of European football's most storied rivalries on Wednesday night as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid collide in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, with the German side holding a precious 2-1 lead from the Bernabeu.

The first leg was everything fans could have hoped for. Bayern rode their luck at times, with Real hitting the post and missing several gilt-edged chances, yet still Luis Diaz and Harry Kane found the net to give Bayern a lead they barely deserved on the balance of play. Kylian Mbappe pulled one back for Real, and the Spanish giants will feel they can turn this tie around in Munich.

England manager Thomas Tuchel was in the stands for that first leg, casting an eye over potential World Cup picks. Among them, Trent Alexander-Arnold caught the eye with a teasing assist for Mbappe's away goal, the kind of moment that could sway selection debates heading into the tournament.

Bayern have injury concerns of their own. Teenager Lennart Karl has been ruled out with a thigh problem, while Harry Kane was given a rest in the Bundesliga clash with St Pauli after reporting "a few reactions" following the first leg. The England striker is expected to be fit enough to start, though Bayern will be cautious given the stakes.

Real's list of absentees is longer and more concerning. Mbappe required stitches after a clash with Vitor Reis in Friday night's La Liga draw with Girona, missing training on Sunday but expected to feature. The bigger losses are Rodrygo, out for the season with a serious knee injury, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is suspended after accumulating too many yellow cards.

Kick-off is at 8pm BST, with TNT Sports 2 the UK broadcast partner.

Bayern will look to finally end years of European heartbreak against the record 15-time champions. Real, however, have made an art of the away comeback in this competition, and Bayern know that protecting their lead will require their most disciplined performance of the season. The winner faces either Inter Milan or Bayern's city rivals in the semi-finals.
