Bastien Tronchon Wins Vuelta Stage 10 in Photo Finish

Bastien Tronchon won stage 10 of the Vuelta a Espana in a photo finish after a late breakaway was caught within sight of the line. BBC Sport reported that the French Groupama-FDJ United rider completed the 184.7-kilometre route from Alcaraz to Elche de la Sierra in four hours, seven minutes and 41 seconds.

The stage remained open until the final kilometre, when XDS Astana rider Yevgeni Fedorov and Q36.5's Xabier Azparren attacked from the peloton. Their move briefly threatened to deny the sprinters, but the pair were reeled in just before the finish as the main group surged to the line.

Tronchon timed his acceleration well enough to beat Magnus Cort Nielsen of Uno-X Mobility and Lidl-Trek's Thibau Nys. The three riders were credited with the same time, with the result decided by the finish-line image. Wout van Aert took fourth for Team Visma-Lease a Bike, also on the winner's time.

The winner did not initially celebrate because he was unsure whether any of the late attackers remained ahead, according to BBC Sport. Tronchon said the previous two days had been difficult but that he felt strong on stage 10. His teammate Guillaume Martin helped set up the finishing effort before Tronchon launched his sprint.

Behind the stage battle, Enric Mas retained the red jersey for Movistar. The Spanish leader holds an advantage of one minute and 18 seconds over Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. Felix Gall sits third at one minute and 39 seconds, while British rider Oscar Onley remains fourth in the general classification.

Stage 11 is scheduled to cover 153.8 kilometres from Cartagena to Lorca on Wednesday. BBC Sport described the route as largely flat and likely to suit the sprinters, although it includes the category-three climb of Morron de Totana. Tronchon's victory leaves the race leaders unchanged while adding a surprise French winner to the 2026 Vuelta.
