Barry double lifts Everton to fifth as Dewsbury-Hall responds to England omission
Everton beat Coventry City 3-1 as Thierno Barry scored twice and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall answered his England omission with a goal. The victory also marked David Moyes equalling a club managerial record.

Everton came from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday, moving into fifth place in the Premier League. Thierno Barry scored twice and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also found the net as David Moyes' side secured successive league victories, according to BBC Sport's reporting from the match.

Watch the highlights:

Barry struck twice within five minutes early in the second half to help turn the game around. The double took the forward to 10 goals across all competitions this season, already exceeding his total of eight from the previous campaign. He had struggled for form and confidence after arriving from Villarreal, but his latest contribution continued a markedly more productive season in front of goal.

For Dewsbury-Hall, the victory followed disappointment earlier in the day when Thomas Tuchel left him out of England's squad for this month's Nations League fixtures. Borussia Dortmund's Jobe Bellingham was selected instead. Tuchel said the Everton midfielder had been close to inclusion and acknowledged the quality of his season, but Dewsbury-Hall must continue waiting for an international opportunity.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, in comments reported by the BBC, Dewsbury-Hall said representing England remained a major ambition. He admitted being upset by the omission but expressed pride in his response on the pitch and said he would keep working towards selection. He also credited his role under Moyes with allowing him the freedom to operate in different areas.

The midfielder has now contributed 11 Premier League goals and seven assists for Everton since the start of last season. His move from Chelsea in August 2025 followed a campaign in which his opportunities were largely in cup competitions. Before joining Chelsea, he had helped Leicester City win the Championship under Enzo Maresca, having earlier gained experience on loan at Luton Town and Blackpool.

The result also marked a managerial milestone for Moyes, whose 592nd match in charge of Everton drew him level with Harry Catterick's club record. Catterick managed the team between 1961 and 1973. Writing in the match programme, Moyes described his pride in the achievement and Everton's importance to his family, with Friday's comeback providing a winning finish to the occasion.
