Barcelona report PSG to UEFA over chainsaw supporter display
Barcelona have reported Paris St-Germain to UEFA over a supporter display before Tuesday's Champions League match, BBC Sport reported. The Spanish club said the imagery promoted violence and hatred, and condemned banners shown during the game at Parc des Princes, where PSG won 4-2.
Watch the highlights:
Supporters behind a goal unveiled an image of a masked person wearing a PSG shirt and using a chainsaw to destroy Barcelona's crest. A French caption referred to a Parisian-style massacre. BBC Sport also reported that banners containing explicit messages appeared during the match.
In a statement given to the BBC, Barcelona described the display as disturbing and incompatible with respect and fair play. The club said football rivalry should not include messages encouraging hatred or violence. BBC Sport had sought comment from both PSG and UEFA.
The BBC cited article 16 of UEFA's disciplinary regulations, which allows sanctions for provocative messages unsuitable for sporting events. A first offence can carry a 10,000-euro fine. The report did not announce a disciplinary ruling or a penalty against PSG.
On the pitch, the teams were tied at 2-2 entering the final 10 minutes before PSG scored twice, according to a separate BBC match-aftermath report. The result left the defending champions top of the Champions League table with three victories from three games. Barcelona had won their first two matches before travelling to Paris.
PSG also emerged from the victory with several injury problems. BBC Sport reported that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia requires surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a challenge with Xavi Espart. He was substituted in the 59th minute, unable to put weight on his right leg. PSG have not announced when he will return.
The Georgia winger, 25, has made 11 appearances for PSG this season and helped the club win successive Champions League titles after joining from Napoli in January 2025. PSG also confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos would miss a few weeks. Dembele suffered an injury to his left thigh, while Marquinhos hurt his right thigh.
