Barcelona Complete €75m Deal for Rodri From Manchester City
Barcelona have signed Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City on a four-year contract. The deal is worth €60m up front with a further €15m in add-ons, according to The Guardian.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Spain captain Rodri from Manchester City on a contract running until June 30, 2030. The Guardian reported that the Spanish champions secured the midfielder with a third bid worth €60m up front and a further €15m in add-ons, €11m of which is described as virtually guaranteed.

Watch the highlights:

The 30-year-old underwent a medical at Barcelona's Joan Despí training ground on Tuesday before the transfer was formally completed. He had arrived at El Prat airport with his family on Monday after an agreement between the clubs took longer than initially expected to finalize. Barcelona's announcement confirmed that Rodri had committed to the Catalan club for four seasons.

Rodri leaves Manchester City after seven years at the Etihad Stadium. He joined the club from Atlético Madrid in July 2019 and won four Premier League titles during his time in England. His most decisive club moment came in 2023, when he scored the winning goal against Inter Milan in the Champions League final. He also won the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

The midfielder was entering the final year of his City contract. His departure follows a summer in which former City manager Pep Guardiola left the club, while Bernardo Silva has also moved on. The Guardian reported that new manager Enzo Maresca is rebuilding the midfield, with Elliot Anderson already signed from Nottingham Forest.

Rodri returns to Spain after captaining his country to the 2026 World Cup title and being named the tournament's best player. Barcelona described him as one of the leading players in his position, highlighting his tactical awareness, composure in possession, ball-winning ability and passing accuracy. His arrival gives the club an experienced holding midfielder three years after Sergio Busquets departed.

Barcelona moved decisively after earlier offers were rejected. The Guardian reported that an initial £40m proposal and a higher second bid failed before the clubs reached agreement on Sunday. Rodri then traveled from Manchester to Barcelona to complete the move, ending a highly successful spell in English football and adding a World Cup-winning captain to Barcelona's midfield.
