Baker's express pace turning heads as England recall beckons after stellar season
Jamie Baker is rapidly establishing himself as one of English cricket's most exciting prospects, with his explosive pace earning comparisons to some of the game's great fast bowlers. The 24-year-old has been a revelation for Warwickshire this season, regularly clocking speeds in excess of 90mph and troubling even the most accomplished batsmen.
Watch the highlights:
"He bowls rockets," admitted former England bowler Darren Gough. "The ball just doesn't stop. When you face someone who hits the deck that hard, it's about survival as much as anything else. He's got a huge ceiling."
Baker's performances have not gone unnoticed by the national selectors, with sources suggesting he is being closely monitored for a potential recall to the England setup. His 42 wickets at an average of 18.4 this season has put him firmly in contention for upcoming Test series.
The paceman attributes his improvement to technical adjustments and increased confidence in his ability to maintain pace throughout spells. "I've been working hard on my action," Baker explained. "The extra yards come from being more efficient with my delivery stride. I'm not trying to throw everything at every ball anymore."
Warwickshire captain Will Rhodes has been full of praise for his bowler. "Jamie has been a standout performer for us. He gives everything in every spell, and the batters respect that pace. He's ready for the next level."
With the England selectors expected to name their squad for the summer series shortly, Baker's impressive county form may prove impossible to ignore.
