Savio Scores on Debut as Tottenham Rout Charlton in Carabao Cup

Tottenham advanced in the Carabao Cup with a 5-1 home victory over Charlton Athletic, highlighted by a debut goal from Savio. The Guardian reported that the former Manchester City winger scored 11 minutes after coming off the bench, giving Spurs a successful start to their campaign in the competition after a difficult opening to the domestic season.

Charlton had early opportunities before Tottenham took control. Greg Docherty forced a save from Antonin Kinsky with a shot through a crowd, while Nathan Asiimwe headed narrowly wide. Spurs did not seriously threaten until the 30th minute, when Dominic Solanke had an effort blocked and Archie Gray tested goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks from the rebound.

Mikey Moore broke the deadlock with a powerful left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area. Solanke then doubled the advantage after Charlton failed to clear a bouncing ball inside their box. Lucas Bergvall's attempt was blocked, but the loose ball reached Solanke, who finished into the bottom corner to send Tottenham into halftime with firm control.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi introduced Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso during the second half. Danso scored with his first touch, heading in a Mateus Fernandes free kick, although he required treatment after the aerial challenge. Savio entered soon afterward for his first Tottenham appearance following his reported £75 million move from Manchester City.

The Brazilian cut inside from the right and drove a low shot into the near corner for Tottenham's fourth. He was involved again when another run and cutback ended with the ball striking teammate Ben Davies and going in, with the goal credited to Davies. Charlton substitute Lloyd Jones headed in from a corner to provide the visitors' only goal.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones had made 10 changes from the side that beat West Ham on Saturday, while De Zerbi restored several players who had only been fit enough for the bench in Tottenham's 3-0 defeat at Brentford. Tottenham will travel to Liverpool in the next round, with the third-round tie scheduled for one of the weeks beginning September 7 or September 14.
