Australia overturn half-time deficit to beat Scotland 30-10 in WXV

Australia overturned a five-point half-time deficit to beat Scotland 30-10 in the WXV Global Series at Hive Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday. BBC Sport reported that three tries in an eight-minute second-half spell settled the contest, leaving Scotland with a third successive defeat after earlier losses to Canada and New Zealand.

Scotland initially controlled much of the contest, with Meryl Smith and Holland Bogan making ground against the Australian defence. Evie Gallagher scored in the 15th minute and Helen Nelson converted. The hosts nevertheless lost promising opportunities through line-out errors, allowing Australia to remain within reach despite Scotland's early advantage.

Desiree Miller scored Australia's opening try after the visitors moved possession wide following a stopped maul. Nelson then punished an Australian infringement from the restart with a penalty, sending Scotland into the interval 10-5 ahead. According to BBC Sport, that lead disappeared as Australia took control after the break and the home side failed to add another point.

Scottish Rugby's live match updates recorded Samantha Wood's try and conversion in the 50th minute, putting Australia ahead 12-10. Gallagher was sent to the sin bin for bringing down the maul. Five minutes later, prop Brianna Hoy took a flat pass to score beneath the posts, with Wood again converting as the visitors made their extra player count.

The decisive sequence continued in the 58th minute. Scottish Rugby described Miller breaking out wide and finding Kaitlan Leaney before the ball was recycled for Faitala Moleka to finish. That lifted Australia into a 24-10 lead. Wood subsequently kicked penalties in the 65th and 76th minutes, completing the scoring and denying Scotland any route back into the match.

The fixture was the first meeting between the women's teams on Scottish soil, according to Scottish Rugby, despite previous encounters at three World Cups and in WXV. It also completed Scotland's three-match home programme in this series. Their campaign now moves to Australia for two further matches against the Wallaroos, following a home finale decided by the visitors' concentrated scoring burst.
