Australia rest Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood as England squads bring fresh chances
Australia have rested their leading Test pace trio for England's white-ball visit, with Mitchell Marsh captaining both squads. Younger players gain opportunities as selectors manage preparations for New Zealand and India.

Australia have left Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood out of their squads for the home white-ball series against England, giving a different group of bowlers an opportunity ahead of a demanding Test programme. AFP reported that Mitchell Marsh will captain both teams, with three one-day internationals followed by five Twenty20 internationals. The selections were announced on Monday.

The decision follows Australia's Test tour of South Africa and comes before a home series against New Zealand. According to AFP, selection chair George Bailey said preparations would be tailored to each player's physical and mental needs. Travis Head, Alex Carey, Matthew Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green are included for the ODIs but will not play in the T20 series.

The ICC's account of the announcement confirmed places for Mahli Beardman and Ollie Peake in the 14-player ODI squad, alongside all-rounders Jack Edwards and Liam Scott. Bailey pointed to Beardman's performances for Australia A and described his potential to play across formats. Scott's return also received backing from the selection chair, who highlighted the progress he had made through recent opportunities.

Nathan Ellis will miss the ODI matches while continuing his recovery from a side strain sustained against South Africa in September, the ICC reported. He is included in the T20 squad. That group also contains Nikhil Chaudhary, Joel Davies, Lachlan Shaw and Sam Harper, while Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mitch Owen return to the shorter-format side.

AFP identified Harper and Shaw as the two uncapped players selected. Their inclusion provides a possible route into international cricket, although selection in the squad does not guarantee an appearance. The ODI matches also offer opportunities for players seeking a role in Australia's preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The schedule published by cricket.com.au begins with an ODI in Perth on November 13, followed by Adelaide on November 15 and Hobart on November 18. Melbourne hosts the first T20 international on November 21. The remaining four matches take the teams to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra, where the series concludes on December 2.
