Asa Tribe reaffirms England ambition as he returns to Jersey duty
Asa Tribe has returned to Jersey duty after more than a year away, while reaffirming his aim to reach England’s senior side. The Glamorgan batter spoke about balancing that ambition with helping his home island progress.

Asa Tribe has reaffirmed his ambition to play for England while returning to Jersey duty for the first time since the summer of 2025. Speaking to BBC Radio Jersey, the Glamorgan batter said he was pleased to represent his home island again after a year that brought England Lions involvement and opportunities in franchise cricket.

Watch the highlights:

The 22-year-old made his Jersey debut at 17 and has rejoined a side leading the six-team ICC Challenge League A standings. BBC Sport reported that Jersey need two further victories to secure a place at the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off in Nepal in December. Tribe said performances for Jersey mattered to him because of what they could help the team achieve.

His previous appearances produced two substantial contributions. He made an unbeaten 175 in a 160-run victory over Papua New Guinea, followed by 53 not out as Jersey beat Qatar by eight wickets. The innings against Papua New Guinea remains the highest individual score in the ICC Challenge League. Tribe told the BBC that it was particularly meaningful because batting conditions had demanded someone take responsibility.

That 175 was also his third List A hundred in a week, following two centuries for Glamorgan. His scoring preceded selection for England Lions that winter, and he is due to travel with the Lions to the Caribbean next month. He has also played franchise cricket in South Africa and Canada, represented Welsh Fire in The Hundred, and helped Glamorgan retain their County Championship Division One place after promotion in 2025.

Tribe described senior England selection as a major personal goal, but did not suggest a call-up was imminent. He said the strength of the England team required him to assess his game critically, identify improvements and prepare to take an opportunity if one arrived. His focus, he explained, was on developing his skills without losing the qualities that had already brought him success.

For now, his return restores a record-setting batter to Jersey's ranks. Tribe said he hoped to help the island advance towards one-day international status and further World Cup opportunities. Those remain objectives rather than secured outcomes: Jersey still have qualification work to complete, while Tribe's England experience remains at Lions level.
