Arafat Minhas takes six wickets as Pakistan beat England by 87 runs
Pakistan defeated England by 87 runs in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, with Arafat Minhas delivering the decisive contributions with bat and ball. According to BBC Sport's match report, the all-rounder scored 59 before taking 6-40, helping Pakistan secure a second victory in two matches in the one-day international tri-series.
Watch the highlights:
England won the toss and chose to field at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan reached 302-9 from their 50 overs, with Hasan Nawaz contributing 79 from 74 deliveries and Arafat using 58 balls for his half-century. Sonny Baker finished with three wickets for 65 runs as England were set a target of 303.
BBC Sport reported that Pakistan had been 133-5 in the 28th over before their recovery. England dropped three catches, including a chance offered by Arafat on 12 when Jordan Cox was keeping wicket. Nawaz, Arafat and Faheem Ashraf helped the hosts rebuild, turning an uncertain position into a total England ultimately failed to match.
Tom Banton and Ben Duckett gave the chase a strong opening, making 57 from 53 balls and 45 from 46 respectively. The BBC scorecard records Duckett's dismissal at 14.3 overs, followed by Banton at 18.3 and captain Harry Brook at 20.2. Brook contributed five from seven deliveries, while Joe Root made 33 from 35 before departing in the 29th over.
Sam Curran added 27 and Cox made 18, but the later wickets arrived quickly. The scorecard lists Cox's dismissal at 34.5 overs and Jamie Overton's at 36.4, before Will Jacks and Adil Rashid fell from successive deliveries in the 39th over. Gus Atkinson's dismissal completed the innings at 215 in 38.4 overs. Arafat's six wickets cost 40 runs across 8.4 overs; Haris Rauf took 2-32 and Naseem Shah 1-46.
BBC Sport described Arafat's return as the best by a Pakistan spinner in an ODI against England. England lost their final seven wickets for 50 runs, surrendering the opportunity created by their opening stand. Pakistan moved close to a place in the final, while England's next assignment is against Sri Lanka at the same venue on Thursday, with both teams seeking their first win.
