Anthony Gordon Emerges as Bayern Munich's Top Summer Target
Bayern Munich appear to have zeroed in on their primary transfer target for the upcoming summer window, with Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon emerging as the German giants' preferred candidate to strengthen their attack. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle could be open to selling Gordon if a suitable offer arrives, with Financial Fair Play regulations potentially forcing the Premier League side's hand.
The timing of Bayern's interest coincides with a difficult financial situation at St James' Park. Sources indicate Newcastle may need to sell one or two of their top players to comply with FFP rules and manage squad costs. Gordon, who can operate across multiple forward positions including left wing, right wing, striker, and attacking midfielder, has attracted interest from multiple clubs, though Bayern's pursuit appears most advanced.
Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich is willing to commit up to 70 million euros to secure Gordon's signature. The England youth international has established himself as a versatile option in Eddie Howe's plans this season, though his future may lie elsewhere if a club of Bayern's stature comes calling.
Bayern's recruitment efforts extend beyond Gordon. The club has also been monitoring several other targets across Europe. Brighton's goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen is expected to leave the Seagulls this summer, with Inter Milan currently leading the race but Bayern and several other top European clubs keeping close tabs. At 24 years old, Verbruggen would represent a younger option between the posts, though Bayern's heir to Manuel Neuer appears to be Jonas Urbig rather than a high-profile signing.
The Bavarian club has also been linked with Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey, a former RB Leipzig attacker who has seven goals in 27 appearances across all competitions this season. With Harry Kane's long-term future at the club uncertain, Bayern may be planning for life without their star striker, though Brobbey's record would need to improve significantly to satisfy demanding fans.
Elsewhere in Bayern's transfer planning, Liverpool's pursuit of Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet for approximately 63.5 million pounds reportedly price Bayern out of the running.Sport Bild's Christian Falk reports that Bayern initially had concrete interest in Jacquet as a backup option had Dayot Upamecano not extended his contract, but the escalating price ultimately saw Bayern withdraw from negotiations before Liverpool clinched the deal.
With the summer window approaching, Bayern Munich continues to cast a wide net across European markets, though Gordon appears to be the name at the top of their wishlist.
