Angel Reese Sets WNBA Game and Season Rebounding Records in Dream Win

Angel Reese set WNBA records for rebounds in a game and in a season as the Atlanta Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71 on Monday. Reese finished with 26 rebounds and 11 points, helping Atlanta complete an unbeaten four-game West Coast trip. Reese passed the previous single-game record of 24 rebounds, established by Chamique Holdsclaw while playing for the Washington Mystics in May 2003. The Dream said Reese secured the league's season record with her 20th rebound of the night, which lifted her to 452 for the campaign. She ended the game with 458 rebounds.

That final total moved Reese seven beyond the former single-season mark of 451 set by A'ja Wilson in 2024. The two records arrived in the same performance, giving the 24-year-old another major rebounding achievement after she led the league in that category during each of her first two WNBA seasons.

Reese also completed a double-double late in the game, reaching 11 points on a basket with 13.9 seconds remaining. Her scoring came on a difficult shooting night, but her work on the glass supplied Atlanta with repeated possessions and ensured that the individual records were part of a road victory rather than a losing effort.

The AP report noted that Reese established a WNBA rookie record by averaging 13.1 rebounds per game with Chicago in 2024. She also set a league record that year with 15 consecutive double-doubles. After leading the WNBA in rebounding in each of her first two seasons, she entered Monday's game leading the category again at 12.4 rebounds per game.

Atlanta's win carried significance beyond the record book because it closed a 4-0 swing through the Western Conference. Dream coach Karl Smesko said Reese had performed at an extraordinary level during the trip, according to the team's recap. The result sent Atlanta home with momentum, while Reese left Los Angeles holding both the WNBA's single-game and single-season rebounding standards.
