Andy Woodman leaves Bromley as Byron Webster takes interim charge
Andy Woodman has left Bromley after the club and manager agreed to terminate his contract, BBC Sport reported on Thursday. Assistant manager Byron Webster will oversee the first team temporarily. The change comes with Bromley 23rd in League One, having won twice in 10 league matches and conceded 25 goals, the highest total in the EFL.
Watch the highlights:
Woodman arrived in 2021 for his first job as a manager and led Bromley into the Football League for the first time. His tenure brought three trophies and two promotions, including the League Two championship in May. He also received the division’s manager-of-the-year award for 2025-26, before the club’s difficult introduction to the third tier.
The departure follows a 4-0 home defeat against Leicester City. Sport Grill’s match coverage described how Will Alves scored after four minutes and John Lundstram added the second 12 minutes later. Luke Thomas and Emil Riis Jakobsen also scored, while Sammy Braybrooke supplied three assists. Bromley were already three goals behind at the interval, leaving them facing a substantial deficit before the second half began.
In comments to BFC TV carried by Sport Grill, Woodman criticised his players’ decisions and use of the ball after that defeat. He argued that Leicester had benefited from avoidable errors rather than exceptional finishes, and expressed frustration that work on the training ground was not being reproduced in matches. His concerns centred on basic execution and the team’s inability to prevent goals.
Woodman made four substitutions at half-time against Leicester. According to the same report, he said fitness limitations restricted his options and dismissed a brief improvement after the break as insufficient. Kamil Conteh fired wide during that spell, but Woodman’s assessment was that the team needed to perform when a game was level, not only once it was trailing heavily.
Bromley owner and chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves paid tribute to Woodman’s contribution to the club’s progress, BBC Sport reported. Woodman leaves with 123 wins from 289 games. Webster’s interim appointment puts him in charge for Saturday’s home meeting with Peterborough United at Hayes Lane, following a managerial spell that lasted five years and seven months.
