Andy Robertson reaches 100 Scotland caps in North Macedonia victory
Andy Robertson became the second man to win 100 Scotland caps as goals from Kieron Bowie and John McGinn secured victory in North Macedonia. He is now two appearances behind Kenny Dalglish's record.

Andy Robertson became only the second man to make 100 appearances for Scotland as his side beat North Macedonia in the Nations League on Saturday. Goals from Kieron Bowie and John McGinn delivered Sebastien Pocognoli's first victory as head coach and ensured the captain's milestone appearance in Skopje ended with a win, BBC Sport Scotland reported.

Watch the highlights:

The 32-year-old is now two appearances behind Kenny Dalglish, whose 102 caps remain the Scotland men's record. Scotland have three Nations League matches left this year, meaning Robertson could move beyond that total during November's international window if he plays in each of them. The landmark has brought the Tottenham Hotspur defender within reach of a record held by a former Liverpool player with whom he has developed a friendship.

Speaking to BBC Sport Scotland after the match, Robertson described the occasion as emotional and said reaching 100 caps mattered deeply to him and his family. The squad marked the achievement with a presentation, but he said his priority had been securing the victory. The result gave him both the personal milestone and the team outcome he had wanted from the evening.

Robertson's international career began in March 2014, when Gordon Strachan selected the then 19-year-old Dundee United left-back for a win over Poland. Alex McLeish appointed him captain in 2018, when he was 24 and had collected 22 caps. He has since played under four permanent Scotland managers, as well as making one appearance during Malky Mackay's spell as interim boss.

Most of those appearances came under Steve Clarke. Robertson played 68 times for Clarke, captaining Scotland in every one of those games as the manager led the team to three major tournaments. According to the BBC's account, Robertson became the first man to captain Scotland at three major finals when he led the side at this summer's World Cup.

His 100 appearances include 98 starts and nine outings at major tournaments, while he has not missed an international camp in three years. He has scored four Scotland goals, most recently a late winner against Poland in 2024. Saturday added another marker to that record of regular selection, with Robertson reaching a century of caps as Scotland registered their first win under their new coach.
