League investigates Andover match abandoned with Paulsgrove down to six players
The Hampshire Premier Football League is investigating after Paulsgrove were reduced to six players while trailing Andover Town 8-0. Injury claims remain disputed, with no outcome announced.

The Hampshire Premier Football League is investigating the abandonment of Andover Town's match against Paulsgrove after the visitors were reduced to six players while trailing 8-0, BBC Sport reported on November 2. The Division One fixture was stopped early in the second half on Saturday, with the league declining to comment further while its investigation continues.

Watch the highlights:

Andover had led 7-0 at the interval. According to their manager, Robbie Skeates, four Paulsgrove players did not return for the second half, leaving the visitors to restart with seven. Andover then scored again before another Paulsgrove player went off injured. Football's laws do not allow a match to continue when either side has fewer than seven players.

Skeates challenged the circumstances of the withdrawals in comments to Andover Town's website carried by the BBC. He said all 11 opposition players had appeared to leave the field without difficulty at half-time, and expressed disbelief that four were then unable to resume. His account questioned how the situation had developed; it did not establish whether the players were injured.

Posts on X appearing to come from Paulsgrove's official account offered a different account, saying the players were genuinely injured and could not be made to continue. The BBC reported that it had asked the league for contact details for Paulsgrove, but that request was declined. The social-media explanation therefore remains attributed to an account appearing to represent the club, rather than a direct response obtained by the broadcaster.

Skeates said Andover would send a report to the league. A league spokesperson confirmed that an investigation was under way, describing that as the standard procedure for an abandoned match. The spokesperson said no further comment could be made before the process was completed. The BBC report did not announce a decision on the match's outcome.

The fixture involved teams in the 12th tier of English football. Andover occupy a mid-table position in the 16-team division, while Paulsgrove are bottom after losing all 10 games this season. Three of Paulsgrove's completed matches had already ended in defeats by margins of at least eight goals.
