Allan Harrison Cards Eight Birdies in Nine Holes at Fairhaven

Amateur golfer Allan Harrison made eight birdies in nine holes during the Silver Pheasant at Fairhaven Golf Club, including a run of seven in succession. The 64-year-old began the back nine four over par for his round before producing the remarkable sequence, according to reporting by The Golf Business.

Harrison birdied the 10th after hitting his approach to six feet, then added another at the par-five 11th following a chip to four feet. His longest successful birdie putt during the run came from 12 feet at the 12th. Birdies at the 13th, 14th and 15th extended the streak to six.

At the long par-four 16th, Harrison hit a four-iron to 10 feet and converted the putt for his seventh consecutive birdie. That matched a streak he said he had previously recorded at Southport & Ainsdale about 18 months earlier. His run ended at the par-three 17th, where his tee shot pitched about a foot from the hole but rolled six feet past and he missed the birdie attempt.

Harrison responded with an eighth birdie at the 18th. After his route to the green was obstructed by a tree, he played a long iron from the back of his stance and then struck a lob wedge over a bunker to about one foot. The closing birdie completed a back nine featuring only one par.

The sequence left Harrison leading the Silver Pheasant on 40 points after the opening day. He did not maintain that position in the second round and finished runner-up to Bryan Hughes. Harrison, whose handicap index was reported as 0.4, has also played scratch foursomes with Tommy Fleetwood at Southport & Ainsdale.

The Golf Business cited England Golf data from January through July 2026 showing that players with handicap indexes below zero averaged 2.74 birdies per 18 holes. Using that data, the publication estimated the chance of Harrison's eight-birdie nine at better than one in 455,000 for that standard of golfer, while stressing that any such calculation depends on the comparison group. The PGA Tour record for consecutive birdies is nine, shared by Mark Calcavecchia and Kevin Chappell.
