Alex Scott leaves Disney+ Women's Champions League presenting role
Alex Scott has stepped away from her presenting role on Disney+'s Women's Champions League coverage after two rounds of matches, BBC Sport reported on 16 October. The former England footballer left the role on Thursday. She has not given a reason for her departure, and the report did not establish a connection between her decision and problems with the coverage.
Watch the highlights:
Scott told BBC Sport she appreciated the opportunities Disney+ had provided and hoped to work with the company again. Her comments left open the possibility of a future collaboration rather than indicating a permanent break with the broadcaster. Disney+ is in the second season of a five-year agreement to show the Women's Champions League, having secured the competition before the 2025-26 campaign.
The broadcaster introduced new formats this season, including a watchalong programme on which Scott and Shebahn Aherne shared presenting duties. Its coverage has experienced technical problems, with an unscheduled advertising break interrupting Arsenal's match against HB Koge on the opening night. Those difficulties were reported separately from Scott's departure; her own explanation did not identify what prompted her to step away.
Scott also has a separate role in women's football media through One More Word WSL, a YouTube show launched this season. She presents that programme on Sunday evenings alongside former England internationals Anita Asante and Fara Williams. BBC Sport also identified Scott as a regular presenter of its live Women's Super League coverage.
Her Disney+ departure comes amid other changes in how broadcasters distribute women's football programming. The BBC announced during the summer that its Women's Super League highlights show would not return for 2026-27. It said it remained committed to the sport, pointing to a dedicated YouTube channel, the iPlayer debate programme The Women's Football Fallout, and clips and analysis on the BBC Sport website.
The BBC said its shift away from linear television reflected changing audience habits. Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, discussing new approaches to coverage with BBC Sport, urged patience and assessment before judging whether an experiment was working. For Scott's former Disney+ role, the confirmed position remains narrower: she has left the programme, has not disclosed why, and has expressed interest in working with the broadcaster again.
