Alex Lozowski describes frustration at end of decade with Saracens
Alex Lozowski has described his disappointment at a marginal role in his final Saracens season. The England centre left with 198 appearances and is now at Sale.

Alex Lozowski has spoken about his disappointment at the way his Saracens career ended, saying he struggled to understand his limited involvement during his final season. BBC Sport reported that the England centre, now with Sale, described the conclusion of his decade at the club as unhappy for both himself and a team that missed the play-offs.

Watch the highlights:

The 33-year-old made just two Premiership appearances for Saracens last season. His only action after the end of February was a 10-minute appearance from the bench in the Champions Cup, according to the BBC report. That left him watching most of the closing stages of a campaign in which the club ultimately finished fifth.

His reduced role followed a 2024-25 season in which his performances had earned England squad selections for the autumn internationals and the Six Nations. Saracens instead selected Olly Hartley and Nick Tomkins together in midfield during the run-in. Lozowski acknowledged that the club had its reasons for those decisions, while making clear that he disagreed with them.

Saracens won five matches in succession to put themselves within reach of the play-offs. Their challenge ended with an away defeat at Exeter in the final round of the regular season, when a semi-final place was at stake. Lozowski said the fifth-place finish was not what the club had wanted, and his own absence from that effort added to his disappointment over the ending.

He left Saracens having played 198 games. Reflecting on the closing weeks, he said he had hoped for more appearances and an opportunity to help the side pursue a top-four finish. He described the experience as painful at the time, though now more distant, and spoke about having to accept that a sporting career does not always unfold as a player hopes.

Lozowski has since joined Sale, where he said being wanted and asked to contribute had mattered to him. He also acknowledged a desire to demonstrate his value to his former club. His stated focus now is on delivering the contribution Sale recruited him to make and helping his new team's season.
