Alcaraz beats De Minaur in Vienna final to extend ATP 500 winning streak
Carlos Alcaraz won the Vienna Open with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Alex de Minaur, completing the final in 87 minutes to extend his winning run at ATP 500 tournaments. According to BBC Sport's report, the Spanish second seed has now won 16 consecutive matches at that level in 2026, with Vienna adding to his titles in Doha and Tokyo this year.

The result also stretched Alcaraz's broader ATP 500 winning streak to 26 matches. His last defeat in that category came against Holger Rune at the 2025 Barcelona Open. The Vienna victory therefore continued a sequence spanning two seasons, while giving the 23-year-old another title in a year in which he has remained unbeaten in this tier of competition.
The opening set was more competitive within individual games than the 6-1 score might suggest. BBC Sport reported that five of its seven games reached deuce, but Alcaraz repeatedly emerged ahead from those exchanges. His groundstrokes troubled De Minaur from the start, and he broke serve three times to take control of the final despite the Australian's efforts to keep those games alive.
De Minaur offered more resistance in the second set as Alcaraz continued to put him under pressure. The 27-year-old saved three break points with the defensive play described in the BBC report, keeping the set considerably closer than the first. That resistance was not enough to force a deciding set, however, and Alcaraz completed the match without surrendering his advantage.
The final point ended with an extended rally before Alcaraz struck a cross-court forehand winner to secure the championship. He celebrated by lifting both arms. The victory was also his seventh in seven meetings with De Minaur, preserving a separate unbeaten record against the Australian alongside the winning streak he has built at ATP 500 events.
Speaking after the match, Alcaraz said his intention had been to play aggressively and make De Minaur raise his own level to beat him, BBC Sport reported. He also expressed satisfaction with his performance and described the week as emotional. His success in Vienna rested on converting the tightly contested opening-set games and maintaining enough pressure to finish the final in straight sets.
