Brent Sobleski: A.J. Brown Trade to Patriots Could Significantly Reshape NFL Draft
A potential blockbuster trade sending Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots could fundamentally alter the dynamics of the 2026 NFL Draft, analysts warn.

As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, league executives are closely monitoring a developing situation in Philadelphia that could send shockwaves through the first round: the potential trade of star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.

Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski outlined how a deal before the draft — though most likely not until after June 1 — could significantly reshape the draft landscape, particularly around the 31st overall pick.

Philadelphia's front office made a move on Friday, acquiring Green Bay Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks, signaling that the Eagles remain active in building their roster. But questions about Brown's future in Philadelphia have only intensified in the days since.

According to Sobleski, executives league-wide expect the Patriots to land Brown eventually. The more pressing question is timing. If New England pulls the trigger before the draft concludes later this month, the 31st pick almost certainly heads to Philadelphia as part of the package. That selection would become a coveted asset for a team in the early second round looking to trade up for a quarterback.

The knock-on effect could be substantial. Sobleski notes that the Eagles, despite acquiring the 31st pick, are unlikely to be in the market for a quarterback. Instead, Philadelphia could target a wide receiver with that selection, a scenario that would compress the market for teams further down the board hoping to move up for a signal-caller.

For the Patriots, adding Brown would represent a significant statement of intent. New England has been searching for a true No. 1 receiver to accelerate their rebuild, and Brown's elite production would provide immediate credibility to whichever quarterback they ultimately select — or perhaps keep, depending on how the draft unfolds.

The draft is scheduled to begin in late April. Whether Brown is dealt before the first pick is called or held until after June 1, the decision figures to be one of the most consequential of the offseason.
