Adam Peaty Plots Course Toward Los Angeles 2028 With Eyes on Rare Double
Three-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty returns to competition this week with ambitions centered on an unprecedented double at the LA Games, fueled by a new perspective gained through marriage and fatherhood.

Adam Peaty is back in the water, and he is thinking big. The swimmer who has dominated the 100-meter breaststroke like few others in Olympic history is setting his sights on Los Angeles 2028, where the addition of the 50-meter breaststroke could give him a chance at something truly rare in the sport.

Peaty, who claimed Olympic gold in the 100 meters in 2016 and 2021 before settling for silver in Paris after contracting COVID-19 just days before the final, revealed the magnitude of the challenge ahead in a recent interview. The next two years, he said, are likely to be the most demanding of his career. The wins may not come often in the buildup, but the one victory that truly matters is the one awaiting him in California.

The decision to continue came after officials confirmed the 50-meter breaststroke would be added to the 2028 schedule. That small addition opened a second avenue for individual gold, something that proved irresistible for a competitor still hungry for more.

This week marks a pivotal checkpoint. Peaty is entered in both distances at the British Championships, a competition that serves as a launching pad toward the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, European Championships, and ultimately the Olympics themselves.

Yet the road has not been smooth. Before Paris, Peaty was open about struggling with injury and mental health challenges, describing his state at the time as a destructive spiral. Even after returning to win in Tokyo, those battles lingered. He credits the Olympics with giving him perspective, calling the experience of swimming out of his skin given the circumstances a point of personal pride.

Asked whether burnout could resurface, Peaty expressed confidence it would not. The focus now, he explained, is on strategic planning rather than pure physical output. He acknowledges that without sport, he would not be the person he has become, and that the price of excellence is one he is willing to pay.

Away from the pool, Peaty has found new stability. He married model Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, in December. The couple share a young son, and Peaty describes the peace that family life provides as transformative for his outlook. He jokes that swimming will always humble you, that it is an unforgiving path, but having his wife and son nearby makes that path considerably easier.

The Ramsays have also welcomed him into their world. Last August, Peaty completed his debut triathlon as part of Team Ramsay, drawing on the support of his famous extended family. When asked about the wedding speeches, Peaty admitted defeat before it began, saying it was always going to be difficult to surpass Gordon Ramsay in the art of making a room laugh.

Peaty recently won the 50-meter title at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet, though he finished fourth in the 100-meter event behind 18-year-old British junior world champion Filip Nowacki. The result serves as a reminder that the path back to the top is neither straight nor simple. But for a man who has redefined what is possible in breaststroke racing, the detour is simply part of the journey toward Los Angeles.
