Connor McDavid Reaches 100-Point Milestone as Oilers Defeat Rangers 4-2
Connor McDavid reached another career milestone on Friday night, recording his 100th point of the season in the Edmonton Oilers' 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The superstar center became the fastest player to reach the century mark this season, accomplishing the feat in just 57 games.
McDavid opened the scoring for Edmonton with a power-play goal in the first period, his 45th of the season, before adding two assists to reach the historic milestone. The 27-year-old captain has now recorded 100 or more points in five of his nine NHL seasons, cementing his status as one of the league's most dominant offensive forces.
"It's always special to reach milestones like this," McDavid said after the game. "But what matters most is that we got the win tonight. We're fighting for every point as we push toward the playoffs."
The Oilers controlled much of the contest against the Rangers, building a 3-0 lead through the first two periods. Leon Draisaitl contributed a goal and an assist, while Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also found the back of the net for Edmonton. Goaltender Stuart Skinner made 31 saves to earn his 25th victory of the season.
New York mounted a late comeback attempt in the third period, with goals from Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider cutting the deficit to 3-2. However, McDavid sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute, capping off his historic performance.
The victory moves Edmonton to 37-20-3 on the season, keeping pace in the competitive Western Conference playoff race. The Oilers have won eight of their last ten games, with McDavid's exceptional play leading the charge during this crucial stretch of the season.
"Connor continues to amaze us every night," Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said. "To reach 100 points this quickly shows just how special a player he is. He's carrying this team on his back right now."
For the Rangers, the loss drops them to 33-22-5, though they remain well-positioned for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The team will look to rebound as they continue their homestand next week.
