Iga Swiatek Cruises Past Coco Gauff to Reach Dubai Semifinals
World No. 1 Swiatek dominated with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the American teenager to advance to her third Dubai semifinal.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek delivered a masterclass performance against Coco Gauff, defeating the American teenager 6-2, 6-1 in just 68 minutes to advance to the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

The Polish superstar was in sublime form from the opening game, breaking Gauff's serve twice in the first set and never facing a break point on her own delivery. Swiatek's aggressive baseline play and precise shot-making proved too much for the 20-year-old American, who struggled to find her rhythm throughout the encounter.

"I felt really good out there today," Swiatek said in her on-court interview. "My serve was working well, and I was able to dictate play from the baseline. Coco is such a talented player, so I'm pleased with how I executed my game plan."

Swiatek broke Gauff's serve five times during the match while losing her own service just once, in the opening game of the second set. The four-time Grand Slam champion won 83% of her first serve points and converted 5 of her 8 break point opportunities, showcasing the clinical finishing that has made her the dominant force in women's tennis.

For Gauff, who was coming off an impressive straight-sets victory over former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the previous round, the loss marks another learning experience against the sport's current queen. The young American managed just 12 winners compared to Swiatek's 23 and committed 19 unforced errors.

Swiatek will face either Elena Rybakina or Jessica Pegula in Thursday's semifinal as she seeks her third Dubai title. The 24-year-old has now won 15 of her last 16 matches and looks in ominous form ahead of the upcoming clay court season, where she has traditionally been at her most dominant. Her victory extends her head-to-head record against Gauff to 4-1, with all wins coming in straight sets.
