Saracens owner backs Ed Coetzee and outlines commercial progress
Dominic Silvester has reaffirmed the Saracens board’s support for Ed Coetzee, citing venue agreements, commercial partnerships and executive appointments in an open letter.

Saracens owner Dominic Silvester has publicly backed chief executive Ed Coetzee and his leadership team, issuing an open letter that rejected claims of turmoil at the rugby club. BBC Sport reported that the intervention followed a Times article questioning the club's executive stability. Silvester's statement, published on Saracens' website, set out commercial and operational developments since Coetzee's appointment in July.

According to BBC Sport, the Times report pointed to Coetzee being Saracens' third chief executive in two years and alleged a high turnover of staff following the 2022 takeover. Silvester acknowledged in his letter that some earlier appointments had not worked out, but said the board remained confident in Coetzee. He presented the team's recent work as evidence that the club was strengthening its business.

Among the developments highlighted was the agreement to bring the all-female ATHLOS athletics meeting to StoneX Stadium in September. The club described the event as sold out and said it featured seven competitions. Silvester also credited Coetzee with negotiating the Gaelic football fixture scheduled for 28 November, which the statement said had sold out in less than an hour the previous week. BBC Sport identified the teams as Mayo and Kerry.

The letter confirmed another agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to stage Saracens' match against Harlequins at the football club's stadium on 20 March 2027. Silvester also outlined a hospitality partnership with Elior. According to the statement, that arrangement will include investment in food and beverage infrastructure as Saracens seeks to improve its offering for corporate guests and other stadium visitors.

Silvester highlighted appointments in finance and operations, naming Jason Thomas as chief financial officer and Rob Cook as chief operating officer. He said the leadership group was working to combine a financially sustainable business with the club's sporting ambitions. The letter also cited the PensionBee front-of-shirt partnership announced in August and the recently announced renewal of the StoneX partnership.

The owner closed by reaffirming the board's support for Coetzee and his colleagues while acknowledging that work remained to achieve the club's goals. His response focused on the executive team's appointments, venue agreements and commercial relationships, countering the criticism with the board's account of progress during Coetzee's first three months in charge.
