Paolo Banchero Scores Career-High 51 Points as Magic Upset Celtics 139-135 in Overtime
The rising star's explosive performance included the game-winning basket in overtime as Orlando delivered a stunning blow to Boston's championship hopes.

Paolo Banchero announced himself as a legitimate NBA superstar Tuesday night at Amway Center, erupting for a career-high 51 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a stunning 139-135 overtime victory over the Boston Celtics in what will go down as one of the most memorable performances of the 2026 season.

The 23-year-old forward was absolutely spectacular throughout the contest, shooting 18-of-32 from the field and 7-of-12 from three-point range while consistently finding ways to score against Boston's elite defense. Banchero's performance included the game-winning three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining in overtime, capping off a night that showcased his immense potential.

"Paolo was just incredible tonight," Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said after the emotional victory. "To perform at that level against a championship-caliber team like Boston shows how much he's grown as a player. When he's locked in like that and playing with that kind of confidence, there's no limit to what he can accomplish."

The victory was particularly significant for Orlando's playoff aspirations, as they moved to within 2.5 games of the final Eastern Conference play-in spot with 18 games remaining. Franz Wagner provided excellent support with 28 points and 9 assists, while Wendell Carter Jr. dominated the boards with 16 rebounds.

Boston received 42 points from Jayson Tatum and 31 from Jaylen Brown, but couldn't contain Banchero's offensive explosion when it mattered most. The Celtics' loss was costly in their quest for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, as they now trail Miami by one game with just over two weeks left in the regular season.

Banchero's 51-point outburst was the highest scoring game by any player this season and served as a reminder of why he was selected first overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. His combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ has made him one of the league's most promising young talents.

The Magic's upset victory over the Celtics provides tremendous momentum as they continue their push for a playoff berth. With Banchero playing at an elite level and the supporting cast stepping up, Orlando appears capable of making serious noise if they can secure a postseason spot.
