Hearts Title Hopes Get Major Boost as Braga Predict Champions League Berth
Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, currently managing Braga, has backed Hearts to mount a serious title challenge in the Scottish Premiership this season, predicting the Tynecastle side could secure Champions League qualification. The comments come following Braga's impressive European campaign and their familiarity with Hearts' playing style through scouting connections.
Watch the highlights:
“We started to believe a long time ago that Hearts have the quality to compete at the very top,” Jorge stated in an exclusive interview. “Their recruitment has been excellent, and they have built a squad capable of sustaining a title push. The infrastructure and fan base provide them with significant advantages.” Braga recently faced Hearts in a pre-season friendly, with the Scottish side earning a creditable 2-2 draw.
Hearts currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, eight points behind leaders Celtic with two games in hand. Manager Frankie McAvoy has guided the club to their strongest league position in five years, with summer signings providing crucial quality throughout the squad. Key performers include midfielder Cameron Devlin and striker Lawrence Shankland, who has netted 14 league goals this season.
The Gorgie club's title ambitions received additional impetus following Celtic's surprise home defeat to Motherwell last weekend. With Rangers also experiencing inconsistent form, Hearts find themselves in an unexpected position of genuine title contention with 12 matches remaining. McAvoy's side have lost just twice in their last 15 league fixtures.
Braga's confidence follows a broader trend of Scottish clubs impressing European observers this season. Hearts' Europa Conference League run to the quarter-finals showcased their tactical discipline and squad depth, earning praise from opponents including Serie A side Fiorentina. The Portuguese club's endorsement carries weight given their own strong standing in the Primeira Liga.
Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay emphasized the club's long-term project: “We are building something sustainable here. The progress we have made over 18 months reflects the hard work of everyone at the club. To hear recognition from a club like Braga, who compete in European competition regularly, is genuinely encouraging.” Hearts return to action on Wednesday when they host St Johnstone at Tynecastle.
