Coco Gauff Defeats Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 7-5 to Reach BNP Paribas Open Final
The American teenager overcame the world No. 2 in straight sets to advance to her second Indian Wells final and continue her remarkable 2026 campaign.

Coco Gauff continued her spectacular 2026 season Tuesday afternoon, defeating world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 7-5 in a thrilling semifinal at the BNP Paribas Open to reach her second Indian Wells final and cement her status as one of tennis's premier players.

The 21-year-old American was in complete control from the baseline throughout the match, using her improved power and court positioning to neutralize Sabalenka's aggressive style. Gauff saved five of six break points faced while converting four of her own break opportunities, showcasing the mental toughness that has become her trademark.

"Playing Aryna is always tough because she hits the ball so hard, but I felt like I was able to stay patient and wait for my opportunities," Gauff said after the victory. "My serve was working well today, and I was able to dictate play from the baseline. Reaching another final here feels incredible."

The victory was particularly impressive considering Sabalenka's dominance on hard courts over the past two years. The Belarusian powerhouse entered the match having won 18 of her last 20 hard-court matches, but struggled to find her rhythm against Gauff's consistent depth and improved defensive skills.

Gauff will face either Jessica Pegula or Elena Rybakina in Sunday's final as she seeks her fourth WTA title and second at the Masters 1000 level. The young American has now reached five finals in 2026, including a championship run at the Australian Open where she captured her second Grand Slam title.

The semifinal victory extends Gauff's winning streak to 12 matches and reinforces her position as the future of American tennis. Her combination of athleticism, improved technique, and unwavering confidence has made her virtually unbeatable when playing at her highest level.

With the tennis world watching, Gauff has answered every challenge thrown her way this season. Her maturation as both a player and competitor suggests she is ready to challenge for multiple Grand Slam titles and potentially reach the world No. 1 ranking in the near future.
