Caleb Williams Dominates NFL Combine with Record-Breaking Quarterback Performance
USC quarterback prospect sets new combine records for QBs in multiple categories, solidifying his status as likely No. 1 overall pick.

Caleb Williams delivered a spectacular performance at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine on Monday in Indianapolis, breaking multiple quarterback records and cementing his position as the overwhelming favorite to be selected first overall in April's NFL Draft.

The USC quarterback prospect ran an unofficial 4.42 40-yard dash, the fastest time by a quarterback in combine history, breaking Robert Griffin III's previous record of 4.41 set in 2012. Williams also recorded a vertical jump of 38.5 inches and a broad jump of 10'8", demonstrating the exceptional athleticism that has made him college football's most coveted prospect.

"I wanted to show teams that I'm not just a pocket passer," Williams said after his workout. "My ability to extend plays and create with my legs is a big part of my game, and I think the numbers today reflect that. I'm confident in my arm talent, but having that mobility dimension makes me even more dangerous as a quarterback."

Williams' throwing session was equally impressive, showcasing pinpoint accuracy on deep balls and demonstrating the arm strength that has drawn comparisons to Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. NFL scouts in attendance noted his ability to make throws from multiple arm angles and his natural feel for placing the ball where only his receivers could catch it.

The Chicago Bears, who hold the No. 1 pick after a disappointing 4-13 season, are widely expected to select Williams despite having invested heavily in Justin Fields just three years ago. Bears general manager Ryan Poles was spotted taking extensive notes during Williams' workout, and team sources suggest they view the USC star as a generational talent.

Williams' combine performance likely sealed his status as the draft's top prospect and could potentially trigger a quarterback run early in the first round. His combination of elite arm talent, exceptional mobility, and proven production at the collegiate level makes him an ideal fit for the modern NFL, where dual-threat quarterbacks have become increasingly valuable. Teams picking later in the first round may now have to consider trading up to secure their franchise quarterback of the future.
