Como Renews Roberta Picchi’s Contract After Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Como 1907 have renewed forward Roberta Picchi’s contract through the end of the 2027-28 season after medical examinations led to a breast cancer diagnosis. The Italian club announced the decision in an official statement, while Reuters reported that Picchi is 34 and plays for Como’s Serie A Women side.

The club said Picchi will now begin treatment. Como’s medical staff will support her and work alongside the specialist teams responsible for her care, according to the statement. No treatment schedule, prognosis or possible date for a return to football was disclosed, and the club asked that her privacy be respected while she focuses on treatment and recovery.

Como described the contract extension as part of its continuing commitment to Picchi. The agreement keeps the forward under contract until the conclusion of the 2027-28 campaign. The club also said it would provide Picchi and her family with the support they need in the months ahead. Its announcement did not provide financial details or outline any other terms of the renewed deal.

Picchi is listed by Como as an Italian forward who wears number 18. She was part of the squad that earned promotion from Serie B last season. In the club’s review of that campaign, Como credited Picchi with making decisive contributions as the team secured the championship with three matches remaining. Como also finished that title-winning season with the division’s best attack and best defence.

That promotion placed Como in Italy’s top women’s division for the 2026-27 season. The club’s account of the campaign said it had assembled the team after acquiring Chievo Women’s sporting title to participate in Serie B, with Selena Mazzantini serving as coach and Heather O’Reilly leading the women’s sector. Picchi was among an attacking group that helped the project reach Serie A at the first attempt.

The immediate focus, however, is on Picchi’s health rather than competition. Como has not announced how long she may be away from the game, and its statement offered no detail beyond the confirmed diagnosis and planned course of treatment. The club’s public commitment is that its own medical team will remain involved alongside her specialists while her extended contract runs through 2027-28.
