UConn Huskies Advance to Elite Eight with Commanding 89-72 Victory Over Auburn Tigers
Donovan Clingan dominated inside with 28 points and 14 rebounds as the defending champions cruised past Auburn in the Sweet 16.

The University of Connecticut Huskies continued their quest to repeat as national champions Tuesday night, dismantling the Auburn Tigers 89-72 in a Sweet 16 matchup at the Alamodome in San Antonio to advance to their second consecutive Elite Eight appearance.

Donovan Clingan was utterly dominant in the paint, recording 28 points and 14 rebounds while shooting an efficient 12-of-16 from the field. The 7-foot-2 sophomore center controlled both ends of the floor, blocking four shots and altering countless others as Auburn struggled to find any rhythm inside.

"Donovan was phenomenal tonight," UConn head coach Dan Hurley said after the victory. "When he's playing at that level, we're extremely difficult to beat. He sets the tone defensively and gives us such a presence offensively that other teams just can't match."

The Huskies jumped out to an early 18-7 lead behind Clingan's interior dominance and never looked back. Stephon Castle added 19 points and 7 assists, showcasing the balanced offensive attack that has made UConn the tournament's top overall seed and betting favorite to cut down the nets again.

Auburn, seeded fourth in the South Region, fought valiantly behind Jaylin Williams' 24 points but couldn't overcome UConn's size and athleticism. The Tigers, who upset top-seeded North Carolina in the previous round, shot just 39% from the field and were outrebounded 45-28 in a game that was effectively decided by halftime.

The victory sets up a tantalizing Elite Eight matchup against either Duke or Tennessee, with UConn now just two wins away from returning to the Final Four. The Huskies' combination of championship experience, elite coaching, and dominant interior presence makes them heavy favorites to advance to the program's sixth Final Four since 2011.

With March Madness reaching its most thrilling stage, UConn has positioned itself as the team to beat, looking every bit like a program capable of becoming the first repeat champion since Florida accomplished the feat in 2006-07.
