Okafor strikes off the bench as Leeds beat Tottenham 1-0
Noah Okafor scored shortly after coming on to lift Leeds above Tottenham. The visitors lost Mathys Tel after a challenge that did not result in a red card.

Noah Okafor delivered the decisive goal as Leeds United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday. Reuters reported that the substitute needed only 97 seconds on the pitch to break the deadlock, giving the home side a victory that moved them above their opponents in the Premier League standings.

Watch the highlights:

The goal arrived in the 79th minute after a throw-in was directed into Okafor's path. He struck a low shot to settle a match that had remained goalless despite Leeds creating several opportunities after the interval. According to Reuters, the result lifted Leeds into eighth place with 14 points, while Tottenham remained on 12.

Tottenham also lost Mathys Tel following a first-half challenge by Jayden Bogle. The incident was reviewed by the video assistant referee, but Bogle stayed on the field. Tel subsequently had to be substituted. Reuters reported the visitors' frustration that Leeds had not been reduced to ten players, leaving the decision a significant talking point alongside the result.

FotMob's match report detailed how Leeds increased their threat after half-time. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a header blocked before Nico Elvedi sent another header wide. Calvert-Lewin then created an opening for Ao Tanaka, whose effort went over the crossbar. Those chances did not produce a goal, but kept Tottenham's defence under pressure as the second half developed.

There were opportunities at the other end, including a Conor Gallagher shot that went wide. Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky then stopped Sean Longstaff before Okafor eventually beat him. Spurs still had a chance to recover a point late on, but James Trafford saved Jan Paul van Hecke's header as Leeds protected their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The result ended two contrasting sequences. FotMob reported that Leeds had gone five league matches without winning, while Tottenham arrived with three consecutive league victories. Its match statistics recorded 16 shots for Leeds against seven for Spurs. Okafor's intervention therefore brought both an immediate reward for the home side's attacking efforts and an end to their recent wait for a win.
