Igor Jesus strikes late as Forest beat Villa for first Glasner win

Igor Jesus scored with two minutes remaining as Nottingham Forest beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, securing Oliver Glasner's first win as Forest manager. BBC Sport reported that the visitors earned their first victory at the ground since 1994, while Villa suffered a third defeat in four Premier League matches.

Liam Delap put Forest ahead just 45 seconds into the second half. According to the Guardian's match report, Murillo won possession from Emiliano Buendia before Delap carried the ball away from Ross Barkley and struck from 25 yards. It was Delap's first goal for Forest, and a later effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.

Villa substitute Alysson equalised with a header from John McGinn's cross after a short corner. The Guardian reported that Forest had been preparing to introduce Igor Jesus before the equaliser and still brought him on for Dan Ndoye. Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki subsequently kept out a Xaver Schlager header as Forest continued to threaten.

The decisive move involved Daniel Munoz exchanging passes with Morgan Gibbs-White, whose backheel opened up the defence for Igor Jesus to finish past Suzuki. The Guardian noted that McGinn had been filling in at left-back after Ian Maatsen's injury left Villa with 10 players. Emery had already used all five substitutions by the 63rd minute, so could not bring on a replacement.

BBC Sport reported that Emery believed James McAtee should have been sent off for the challenge that injured Maatsen, but the Villa manager did not blame that incident for the defeat. He accepted that Forest deserved to win and took responsibility for his team's poor second-half performance. Pau Torres had also been replaced before half-time.

The BBC recorded 22 Forest shots and 32 touches inside Villa's penalty area. Alysson's equaliser ended Villa's 372-minute wait for a Premier League goal, but did not bring their first league win of the season. Glasner, meanwhile, extended his unbeaten managerial record against Emery to eight matches.
