Coventry Complete Ethan Pinnock Signing From Brentford

Coventry City have completed the signing of Jamaica centre-back Ethan Pinnock from Brentford, strengthening their defense for their return to the Premier League. BBC Sport reported on Wednesday that the fee was officially undisclosed but was understood to be around £6 million.

Standard Sport reported that the agreement is structured as an initial £5 million payment with a further £1 million in possible add-ons. The same report said the 33-year-old is set to join Coventry on a three-year contract that includes an option for another 12 months. The completed transfer follows an agreement between the clubs and Pinnock's medical.

Pinnock leaves Brentford after seven years with the west London club. He joined the Bees from Barnsley in 2019 and made 216 appearances, scoring 12 goals and supplying seven assists, according to reports carried before the transfer was completed. His spell included a central role in the side that won promotion from the Championship through the 2020-21 play-offs.

The defender then became an established Premier League player as Brentford consolidated their place in the top flight. His route there began outside the professional divisions with Dulwich Hamlet before spells at Forest Green Rovers and Barnsley. Brentford's own career records describe his rise through the English football pyramid and his development into a regular at the heart of their defense.

Pinnock also brings international experience to Coventry. The Jamaica international has made 28 senior appearances for his country, according to BBC Sport and other reports on the deal. His arrival gives Coventry another experienced central defender as the club adjusts to Premier League competition after winning promotion.

The move is a completed signing rather than the proposed transfer first reported earlier in the week. Coventry gain a defender with more than 200 Brentford appearances and experience of both a Championship promotion campaign and multiple Premier League seasons. Brentford, meanwhile, receive a reported package of up to £6 million for a player who had entered the final year of his contract.
