Gervonta Davis Stops Ryan Garcia in Round 8 to Retain WBA Lightweight Title

Gervonta Davis lived up to his knockout reputation on Saturday night, stopping Ryan Garcia with a vicious body shot in the eighth round to retain his WBA lightweight championship at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of 18,000 screaming fans.

The 29-year-old Baltimore native dropped Garcia with a picture-perfect left hook to the solar plexus at 1:44 of the eighth round, leaving the Californian writhing on the canvas as referee Kenny Bayless completed the 10-count. The knockout punch was the culmination of Davis methodically breaking down Garcia's body throughout the fight.

"I told everyone I was going to get him out of there," Davis said in his post-fight interview. "Ryan's a tough fighter, but I knew if I kept going to the body, I'd find the opening. This is what separates me from everyone else in the division - my power is different."
