Jon Rahm Announces Return to PGA Tour After LIV Golf Stint Ends
The Spanish star will rejoin the PGA Tour next month after completing his two-year commitment to LIV Golf, setting up potential showdowns with the world's best players.

Jon Rahm sent shockwaves through the golf world today by announcing his return to the PGA Tour, effective immediately following the conclusion of his two-year commitment to LIV Golf. The former world number one from Spain will make his PGA Tour comeback at next week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, ending speculation about his future and setting up potential blockbuster showdowns with the game's elite players.

Rahm's decision comes after extensive negotiations between his representatives, the PGA Tour, and the DP World Tour, which have agreed to reinstate his playing privileges without the lengthy suspension that was initially threatened when he joined LIV Golf in December 2023. The 31-year-old Spaniard expressed gratitude for his time with the Saudi-backed circuit while emphasizing his desire to compete against the strongest fields in professional golf. "LIV Golf provided me with incredible opportunities and experiences, but I've always believed that competing against the best players in the world week after week is what drives me as a competitor," Rahm said during a press conference in Phoenix.

The two-time major champion's return immediately elevates the competitive landscape of professional golf, reuniting him with rivals like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Viktor Hovland. Rahm's departure from LIV Golf was facilitated by a restructuring of his contract that allowed for an early exit clause, though financial terms of the arrangement remain confidential. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan welcomed Rahm's return, stating that "having Jon back where he belongs—competing on the PGA Tour—strengthens our product and gives fans the opportunity to see the world's best players compete together."

Rahm's decision was influenced by his desire to compete for Official World Golf Ranking points and maintain his eligibility for major championships and Ryder Cup selection. During his LIV Golf tenure, he slipped from the top of the world rankings to 47th due to the limited ranking points available in LIV events. The Spanish Golf Federation and Ryder Cup captainship consideration played significant roles in his decision-making process, as he hopes to lead Europe in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

The timing of Rahm's announcement coincides with the PGA Tour's strongest fields of the early season, beginning with Bay Hill next week and continuing through the Players Championship and major championships. His immediate reinstatement avoided the potential suspension period that could have prevented him from competing in this year's major championships. Rahm's world ranking is expected to improve quickly given his talent level and the strength of PGA Tour fields, potentially positioning him as a factor in all four majors this season.

Rahm acknowledged that readjusting to PGA Tour life will require some transition time, particularly in managing his schedule and tournament commitments. His equipment deal with Callaway remains intact, and his coaching relationship with Dave Phillips continues unchanged, providing stability as he returns to familiar territory. "I'm excited to get back to what I love most—competing at the highest level every week," Rahm concluded. "The PGA Tour represents the pinnacle of professional golf, and I'm grateful for this opportunity to return and compete for victories and major championships." Golf fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating his first round back at Bay Hill, where Rahm hopes to begin the next chapter of what has already been a remarkable career.
