The Oilers captain opened the scoring just 2:47 into the first period with a spectacular breakaway goal, showcasing the blazing speed that has made him one of the most feared players in the NHL. McDavid received a stretch pass from Evan Bouchard and raced past the entire Calgary defense before beating Flames goaltender Jacob Markström with a perfectly placed wrist shot to the top corner.

McDavid's second goal came midway through the second period on a power play opportunity, as he one-timed a pass from Leon Draisaitl past a helpless Markström. The goal was McDavid's 47th of the season, putting him on pace to reach the 50-goal plateau for the third time in his career. The hat trick was completed with 8:43 remaining in the third period when McDavid capitalized on a Calgary turnover in their own zone. After stealing the puck from Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin, McDavid made a quick move to his forehand and fired a shot that deflected off the post and across the goal line, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
